Firefox is already running but not responding

Ever had this problem ?

Firefox is already running but not responding. To open a new window, you
must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

This can be really annoying especially when you know that Firefox is not already running because you just closed Firefox and you can see that it's not already running.  You are then forced to Ctrl Alt Delete and switch off Firefox or log off and log back on again.

What can I do?

(1) Switch off the computer and restart (Not recommended) waste of your time.

(2) Log off and log back in again (Not recommended) waste of your time.

(3) Ctrl Alt Delete to open Windows Task Manager, click on the processes tab and end the process.  This works ok, but is time consuming and gets irritating.
